SCMS Cochin to host a FDP on Management Consultancy from 26-27th Aug, 2016

July 6, 2016, Cochin: Consultancy Development Unit of SCMS Cochin will host a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) that will sensitize management professionals, in academia and industry to focus on management consultancies and opportunities it offers them. The two day FDP will be held on 26th and 27th August and has been organized under “Building Capacities for Consultancy Development & Knowledge Management with Partner Institution (KMPI)” programme of Consultancy Development Centre (CDC).

Management Consultancy is all about helping organizations improve business. It includes organizational change management assistance, development of skills, capacity building, process studies and analysis, technology implementation and other services. Unfortunately consulting as professional activity in management institutes isn’t explored the way it should be. The FDP will try to address that by emphasizing on the role of management consultancy services and the scope it has to offer.

Helmed by experienced professionals, the FDP will be ideal for faculty members from B-Schools, consulting firms, government departments, consultants and Corporates companies from different industry sectors. Modern, engaging training pedagogy will keep things interesting for participants as they get an overview of consulting and find out more about its process life cycle. The programme will also focus on consultant-client relationships besides ethics and professionalism in consulting.

Marketing of consulting services, proposal preparation and costing of consulting services, securing, planning and delivery of consultant assignment will be some of the other topics covered during the programme. B School representatives will benefit from the session based around consultancy in Management Institutes covering skill gaps. There will also be a segment on “Consultancy as a Professional activity of faculty members in Management Institutions” to look forward to.

Who should attend the FDP? The FDP is designed for faculty members from B-Schools, Department of Management Studies, Consulting firms, Government Departments, Consultants and Corporates / Industries.

Thus the FDP has something for all participants with their own requirements and focus. They will not only go home richer in knowledge and experience but with participation certificates from CDC, New Delhi and the institute too.

“SCMS Cochin School of Business has made me confident enough to take on challenges and succeed in my internship.”

                                                                                                                                                                      Nithya Mariam Joy
PGDM Batch 23

nithyaSummer internships are where management students like me learn the code of conduct for the industry and corporate world. Hence, it’s an important training ground where I will get to learn about the ins and outs of working in an organization. I am grateful for this exposure to the corporate world that SCMS Cochin School of Business has offered me. Right from day one at the institute we have been prepared for an entry into corporate life.

I chose to do my PGDM because I wanted to make a place for myself in the corporate world. I understand that there is intense competition today, which is why I wanted to choose the best B School for me. I learned about SCMS Cochin through one of my seniors and then read a lot of positive things about it. That helped me make my decision and I am happy that it has been a smart one.

Today, I feel that I have been offered the best platform to walk into the corporate world. My internship with Shriram Life Insurance will be the next step in that direction for me. I am looking forward to working with the company, where I will be responsible for selling several of its products. I feel confident that I will be able to deliver on the tasks assigned to me thanks to the training I have received at my institute.

One of the most important things I have learned at SCMS Cochin is punctuality, and it’s something I will maintain during my internship. Being on time at your work place is actually the best first impression you can make with your colleagues. I intend to maintain a healthy working relationship with them and hope for an environment where I get to learn a lot. In fact, internships are a great opportunity to learn from experts, which I hope to do.

Through this internship I also expect to enhance my management and communication skills. Of course, I have learned a lot about them during my first year at the institute, but now it’s time to put things into practice. SCMS Cochin has opened up a whole new world for me where I learned to free myself of my inhibitions and go after new challenges. I also got so many exciting opportunities to interact with industry professionals through various sessions. Their success stories have inspired me to carve out my own path, which in some ways will begin with this internship.

Sreenesh S.Shenoy, SCMS-COCHIN Batch 20 – “SCMS-Cochin and MFL gave me wonderful career guidance”

Cochin-born, PGDM course 20th batch student, Sreenesh S. Shenoy has every reason to be elated about being SCMS-Cochin student. Specialising in retail, merchandising and marketing, Sreenesh is of the firm view that his project paved the way for a sound foundation in retail store operations and sales.  While interning with Madura Fashion & Lifestyle (an Aditya Birla Nuvo company) and being assigned to the Louis Philippe store in Commercial Street, Bangaluru, he exceeded the retail sales target by 250 percent. No wonder that an elated Sreenesh says, “For an intern I have done exceedingly well, and I am lucky to be associated with this prestigious company.”

Unlike any other field, retail life is bit hectic. Being a 365-day operation, the focus is constantly on customer service and satisfaction. Speaking of the main learning’s from his internship, he says, “Maintaining a store is not an easy job. Everything needs to be controlled and you should have a proper knowledge about all the activities.”

He is particularly thankful to the retail business development head, Mr. R. Parthasarathy, who recommended him and taught him the important basics of retail store operations during his busy schedule.

On the issue of customer service satisfaction, Sreenesh explains, “Each customer is different with regard to style, likings, preference, etc. So interacting directly with customers and learning from them gives one a different experience” and adds, “I myself try to get an experience of every activity inside the retail outlet and learn something beyond it. This policy is the best I can adopt to earn a successful career.”  Among other things he learnt was about how to handle an entire retail store outlet and the ERP system of the company which includes billing, stock management, CRM, auto replenishment systems etc.

Sreenesh says that the main challenge was interacting with customers and resolving their complaints and queries, which he successfully handled by observing and listening to his store manager and colleagues. He says he thoroughly enjoyed working with the entire team at the Commercial Street outlet. “It is one of the biggest stores in Bangalore and I am lucky to get to work with this team,” adds Sreenesh. He is extremely grateful to his store manager and project guide, Mr. Manish Sharma, who ensured that he learnt every aspect before he finished his project. Further, Sreenesh adds that every employee should be geared to render proper customer service, the merchandise on display should be visually appealing and the customer should get the proper satisfaction from the service offered.

“The employees in the firm are very supportive, always encouraging and motivating. I also would like to thank Ms.Deepa Mahesh, Ms.Rubi Kalita and Mr.Srinivasan for giving me a wonderful and experiencing opportunity”, ends Sreenesh.

Sreenesh is all praise for his faculty mentor, Mrs. Joby Joy, who continuously keeps in touch with her mentees and motivates them to finish their work in time. “She is a good guide and successfully resolves our project queries. I am extremely thankful to SCMS-COCHIN and MFL for giving me such a wonderful guidance for my career,”
