July 6, 2016, Cochin: Consultancy Development Unit of SCMS Cochin will host a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) that will sensitize management professionals, in academia and industry to focus on management consultancies and opportunities it offers them. The two day FDP will be held on 26th and 27th August and has been organized under “Building Capacities for Consultancy Development & Knowledge Management with Partner Institution (KMPI)” programme of Consultancy Development Centre (CDC).

Management Consultancy is all about helping organizations improve business. It includes organizational change management assistance, development of skills, capacity building, process studies and analysis, technology implementation and other services. Unfortunately consulting as professional activity in management institutes isn’t explored the way it should be. Helmed by experienced professionals, the FDP will be ideal for faculty members from B-Schools, consulting firms, government departments, consultants and Corporates companies from different industry sectors. Modern, engaging training pedagogy will keep things interesting for participants as they get an overview of consulting and find out more about its process life cycle. The programme will also focus on consultant-client relationships besides ethics and professionalism in consulting.

Marketing of consulting services, proposal preparation and costing of consulting services, securing, planning and delivery of consultant assignment will be some of the other topics covered during the programme. B School representatives will benefit from the session based around consultancy in Management Institutes covering skill gaps. There will also be a segment on “Consultancy as a Professional activity of faculty members in Management Institutions” to look forward to.

Who should attend the FDP? The FDP is designed for faculty members from B-Schools, Department of Management Studies, Consulting firms, Government Departments, Consultants and Corporates / Industries.

Enthusiasm and Emotion at Director’s Fireside 2013

Design Web BannerA farewell is a time to say goodbye. Although it’s an emotional event, one has to say adieu on a happy note to the ones who are leaving and wish them luck in their next phase of life. With these sentiments in minds, it was a fun-filled and colourful evening on 25th March at SCMS-Cochin when juniors bade a grand farewell to their beloved seniors, under the name “Director’s Fireside 2013”.

The seniors had a great time, and enjoyed every moment of the well organised farewell party by their juniors. The event began with a video which captured many cherished memories and moments from their two years in the institution.  Faculty members shared their memories with the outgoing batch and wished them well in their careers.

The juniors showed their affection for the seniors by singing some beautiful, sometimes emotional songs. But the mood could only be called upbeat when the seniors took to the dance floor – their dance performances had the audience on their feet, with the loudest cheers coming from the juniors. The highlight of the evening was a surprise activity in which senior boys had to drape a saree and walk the ramp. Four pairs of boys were selected randomly and in each, one had to drape a saree on the other, who then had to do the catwalk. As can be imagined, this had the onlookers rolling in the aisles with laughter and the ‘models’ were greeted with many cheers and whistles. Later in the evening, the mood mellowed and became more solemn and nostalgic as the seniors expressed their emotions by lighting candles.

Every year, the event polls the best individuals from the outgoing batch in different categories. This year’s Angry Young Man was Venugopal, Angry Young Woman was Bindya, Mr. Funny Bones was Pankaj, Miss Funny Bones was Renu, Miss Best Dressed was Tanu Maria, Mr Fireside was Unnikrishnan and Miss Fireside was Rinu Jacob. Winners were felicitated by the Director and other senior faculty members.

There will be an end for every beginning. The journey of PGDM Batch 20 of SCMS-Cochin came to an end at the Director’s Fireside 2013 and the memorable and colorful farewell ended on a high, with everyone getting together to shake a leg in some final dance performances.

Sridhar, PGDM 21

The SCMS Marketing wizard was discovered by ‘Quintessence’

marketing wizardThe Marketing quiz conducted by Quintessence, the Marketing Grid of SCMS-Cochin, showcased the knowledge and talents of the students of PGDM Batch 20. The quiz, hosted as the Grand Finale to the last chapter of the Quintessence sessions for Batch 20, was met with wide appreciation and applause.

The session was hosted by three talented and charismatic quizmasters, Mr. Sairam Ravisanker of the Retail batch, Mr. Mohit Mohan of the Systems & Operations batch and Mr. Suraj Antony of the Retail batch of PGDM 20. Four teams from each of the specialisations – Finance, Human Resource, Systems & Operations, and Banking & Insurance took part. The Retail batch hosted the event, thereby forfeiting the chance to participate. The rounds were full of fun-filled yet intriguing brain-teasers, each round having a mix of visual, verbal and video-based questions.

The rounds progressed rapidly, with the cheering crowds making a noise for the team they supported. The faculty played a special role by being part of the final round and each teacher displayed his/her acting talent, which finally led to questions from the world of films. In the end, when the dust settled, the Finance team walked off as the winner. Much to the surprise of competing teams, consolation prizes were awarded to all the participants.

The event was colourful and exciting and was able to keep the entire audience engaged. With all its fun and extravaganza, it was indeed a grand finale to the marketing grid sessions – and truly the ‘Quintessence’ of Marketing.
