Sunith S. Menon joined the PGDM batch of 2014 at SCMS after completing a B. Tech from Government Engineering College Thrissur in Production Engineering. His desire to succeed brought him to SCMS; however, his simplistic approach is most charming. “I wanted to pursue an MBA and one of my friends, an alumnus of SCMS, gave me good feedback on the institute and I joined it!” he says, recalling how he was introduced to SCMS. And, his decision seems to have paid off handsomely: “SCMS is different from other B-schools in terms of its IMLP, where we get enough chances to enhance our presentation skills and get rid of the fear of public speaking. In other colleges the skill is offered as a personality development class for only a few weeks, which does not give students enough time to practice and develop their speaking and presentation skills.” This self-confidence and the ability to present himself in a different light has earned him a placement with LG Electronics.
“The selection process was not simple,” Sunith tells us. “We first went through a group discussion where 7 candidates were shortlisted out of 40. These 40 came through a psychometric test that lasted an hour prior to the GD. The 7 selected candidates were then interviewed and the selected 4 were taken to the LG branch office for a virtual interview with the sales head, and finally another short interview with the branch head!” The selection itself is a morale booster and Sunith feels elated with his achievement. He has been offered the position of Senior Executive I, Sales and Marketing. His job role includes Target V/S Achievement, MOP Management, Trade Scheme/ Consumer Management, Channel Management, Operations, AR Management, and People Management.
He is looking forward to his first salary and intends to spend it on a hard disk to support his gaming hobby! “I love watching anime (common people call it Japanese cartoons)” he says. “I am also into computer gaming and I enjoy basketball, not because I play it but because I like the anime Kuroko no basuke or Kuroko’s Basketball!”
Sunith believes in the experiential learning that SCMS promotes. He did his summer internship project with L&T Mumbai International Airport Project. Speaking of that experience, he says, “I was attached to the materials department. Fortunately for me, the person who was working there was posted to Nagpur project on deputation so I was assigned to his work for about 3 weeks. That was a real learning experience and I received lots of input from my colleagues. I created a flow chart for project procurement, which they told they would use for their freshers’ training.” When asked about the challenges of his new job, Sunith, a simple person but an ambitious professional, responds with a quick smile, “Bring it on!”
