On the 28th of April 2012, SCMS-COCHIN will deliver 184 well-groomed management professionals to various organizations in India, as well as abroad. SCMS-COCHIN, which is noted for its disciplined approach to management studies, will, in the best of traditions, kickstart the convocation ceremony of the 19th Batch, sharp at 10 AM, with the convocation procession marching to music; making its way to the convocation venue – a panoramic ‘pandhal’ erected on the campus grounds of SCMS-COCHIN, specifically to host the convocation. The convocation procession will consist of graduating students, faculty, directors, deans, members of the management of SCMS-COCHIN, distinguished guests and the Chairman, all attired in the formal gowns exclusive to SCMS-COCHIN.
The convocation will be declared open by Dr. G.P.C.Nayar, Chairman, SCMS-COCHIN. Following this there will be the traditional welcome address, after which Dr. Filomina P George, Dean, Academic Administration, SCMS-COCHIN, will present the batch that is to be awarded the Post-Graduate Diploma in Management. Next, the Dean will call out the names of graduates of the 19th Batch of SCMS-COCHIN – all 184 of them – who will line up on stage to receive their Diploma from the Chief Guest, Shri A.P.M. Mohammad Hanis, IAS, Managing Director, Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala Limited. Born in Thiruvananthapuram, Shri Mohammed Hanis underwent his complete education in Kerala. A B.Tech in Civil Engineering, Shri Mohammed Hanis was selected for the IAS in 1996, and was allotted to the Kerala Cadre. His first appointment after being commissioned was as the Assistant Collector of Kollam between June 1997 and June 1998. Ever since, he has held numerous important administrative appointments like the Sub Collector of Perinlamanna (August 1998-October 2001), General Manager, Roads and Bridges Development Corporation (October 2001-July 2004), District Collector and District Magistrate of Ernakulam (July 2004-May2008) as well as the Director of Public Instruction from 7th of May 2008, before assuming his present appointment. Shri Mohammad Hanis is an avid traveller and reader.
The Conferral ceremony will be complete when the Registrar administers the oath to the graduates of SCMS-COCHIN and asks them to turn the tassel on their cap from left to right. This will be followed by the Chairman’s address and the convocation address.
In the final overture, the top performers of the passing out batch of SCMS-COCHIN will be acknowledged with awards for the best student for academics as well as the Best Outgoing Student award for all round performance being given out by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Vinu Verghese. An alumnus of the St. Xavier’s College Calcutta, Mr.Vinu Verghese is a Chartered Accountant and is currently the Sr. Vice President at Idea Cellular Ltd and Circle Head – Kerala Operations.
Following this there will be a vote of thanks and then the Chairman, SCMS-COCHIN will declare the convocation ceremony closed. The National Anthem will be played and then the convocation procession will move out of the hall to the tune of music, to the adjoining ‘pandhal’ where the guests, students and faculty of SCMS-COCHIN will gather for a farewell lunch.
