If you are one of those who suffer from the quizzing bug and other competitions, SCMS-Cochin hosted Shikhar 2012, its prestigious cultural festival with many exciting events taking place for two-days on Jan 30 & 31, 2012. The line-up for this event included greater variety of performers within a wide range of treasure hunt, stock games, IT Game, business quiz, event management, best manager, business plan, mad adz, and brand wars all featuring. Students from 32 colleges in and around South India participated in the event which had fun-packed array of entertainment for young people. This mega extravaganza offered something for everyone, catering for all tastes.
The function started with event management sponsored by Ergo consulting where four rounds of events took place. The ‘GO GREEN’ event was to especially highlight the green consciousness among students. The brand manager was power packed event where 13 colleges registered for it.
A good manger should not only be able to resolve complex situations but also come out flying even when pushed to the wall. This is precisely what was tested in Best Manager event which was sponsored by MWT consultancy. In this two day event participants were made to cross many hurdles—Quiz, creative association, sell a defective product, and also field volley of question from judges. Thirteen colleges registered for the event and participants kept eliminating on regular intervals. After seven grilling rounds Abhinav Das of Christ University, Bangalore won the best Manager Award and cash Prize of Rs. 25,000. The business plan was even more powerful where different participants showcased their business plan for future. In the mad adz, students prepared sonorous jingles for radio on different topics.
Can a trip to moon be possible? The brand war event was even more exciting where participants prepared advertisement for trip to moon. “It was really challenging event such preparation of advertisement on some unknown theme like travelling plan for moon,” said one of the participants. The purpose was to deliver insights and leadership that have an impact on the students.
The evening cultural event by SCMS Cochin students was hosted by Abhijith Deogarhia and Shruthi. The talented Geordie Job Pottas showed his super specialty skills to count the numbers of letters in any word. A fashion show “COLOURS FOR MANAGERS” was also organised in this where SCMS-COCHIN students dressed in innovative colourful dresses enthralled the audiences; dresses were designed by PACHA – Bangalore. Then a dance show and Musical performance provided much needed glue to the audiences. The food items provided sumptuous food items with Indian and Chinese foods in the food court. Most of the food stalls were taken by students except one which was managed by Flakes restaurant run the SCMS Alumni turned entrepreneurs.
“The event gave me overall understanding of the things. I really enjoyed it,” one of the participants added. Rajagiri School of Business studies, Cochin, emerged as the overall champions of the fest. The event sponsors for the festival were Union Bank of India, State Bank of India, Hedge Equities, Ergo Consulting, MWT Consultancy, Popular Vehicles & Services, and Skyline Builders, Swiss Time House, Videocon and media partners Mathrubhumi and Club FM 94.3.
