Ten people from Germany are already guests of SCMS in Cochin. From this group, six students and two faculty belong to the German Universityof Applied Sciences Ravensbury,Weingarten,Germanywhile the other two are company representatives. Accompanying the students are Eberhard Hohl, faculty of the study week and Bernd Platzek, the University’s Managing Director. Markus Folz is Director, HR, at RAFI GmbH and Co.KG. Michael Kempf is CEO of MKS Software Management, AG. Both gentlemen represent their companies.
Planning their visit has been quite challenging. Their stay at SCMS Cochin, which began on January 29 ends on February 1. Finally, the itinerary planned offers them a healthy mix of fun, culture and work. On Sunday, Jan 29, the team visited Fort Cochin and went on the famous and fascinating Kerala Houseboat trip in Alleppey’s backwaters.
Monday Jan 30 saw them getting to work at the SCMS Cochin campus. Before any sessions within four walls, they got an opportunity to see the beautiful SCMS campus grounds, the institute’s infrastructure and met a few students and faculty members. A typical Kerala lunch was served at the college cafeteria. Work then began in earnest with a session with Professor R T R Varma, senior faculty at SCMS Cochin. He spoke to them about Doing Business in India– a very fascinating and timely topic.
The two corporate leaders from Germany took over, making very scintillating yet succinct presentations, giving those present an insight into their country and their corporate culture. Next in the post lunch session was Dr. Raj Krishnan’s talk on Medical Tourism in India. A very interesting subject, as the world is looking towards Indian doctors and hospitals to provide less expensive and international quality medical expertise.
Time to unwind. The guests were treated to some Kerala Culture, and were served a sumptuous dinner especially made in their honour. January 31 began with a trip to the Tata Ceramic Factory.
By noon, they were back at the SCMS campus from where they left for the Carborandum University in Koratty. It was a short day as on February 1, they return to their homeland. Enriched, and enchanted by their SCMS experience in Cochin, Kerala.
